I finally got a call back from my pulmonologist today with an appointment date for my pre-op clearance, which is what I needed to schedule the surgery and all the other appointments.
As my natural hormones bled down, and the synthetic hormones ramped up ... it was freaky. At times I would shake so hard I had to pull the car over for fear of losing control, and then it would stop. I would sweat in the cold air, and get chilled in the heat.
I read that jump-starting my metabolism in the morning is important and it does help to keep me warm for most of the day, even when the hormones are low. I believe that my body reacted as though it still had thyroid hormone and heated up.
I was walking with my son and he said to me, “Dad, you need a house.” I knew instantly what he meant. We walked by a place that had a “for sale by owner” sign on it, and we went in and checked it out.
My Tri Team and training is huge. It gives me a sense of terrific strength and accomplishment. I feel healthier with every swim and run and bike. At our first meeting, Nabil Kazi told us, "If you expect to win your age category, you are in the wrong place. You will NOT win against the Pros.
My hormone situation is hammering my equilibrium in ways I never expected. Having been a swimmer forever and long time scuba diver, I never expected to be scared in the water. My first open ocean swim I got out to the buoy and literally didn’t know which way was up.
Re-scans happen at the end of the first year and my Endo reccomended Thyrogen, which forces a hypothyroid state without you having to go off of your synthroid to get there. I dropped weight suddenly (over 10 pounds in 2 weeks) and my balance and equilibrium went wacky.
My Mom and I want to thank all of you who are asking about ways to help. Cousins Mike and Ruth are in charge of food and fun. Adele and Jim are in charge of logistics. Caroline, my daughter, is in charge of inspiration.
This just came in today from Denice. Mom fell down the stairs a few nights ago. Luckily she didn't break her hip, but she has several breaks in her femur.
A couple of years ago Antony and I went to visit his father in southeast DC. We brought along our guitars in the hopes that our playing would be a salve and a relaxant to Antony’s father, who at this point was becoming easily agitated.
