The robotic prostatectomy is scheduled for 1/27/11. My doc says the grade is low enough I don't have to rush into it. Hopefully can enjoy the holidays and not worry too much while waiting.
My husband had been seeing a couple of different urologists for kidney stones over the last several years. During that time his PSA was also rising, although it was still < 4.0. Neither of the urologists, not the primary care doc ever brought up the subject of PSA.
We are home from the hospital. The surgery went well and instead of an overnight stay, they let us come home. Nothing better than being in your own bed! The hole in his colon was about 2-3 inches up into his rectum, so they did not have to open him up, but....
Tomorrow morning, my husband will have the biopsy done. The bone scan is scheduled for Dec. 3. The waiting part is so difficult, you realize that your life is now on hold. The worst part is not knowing what to expect.
11/15/2010...two people I know, both friends are preparing themselves for surgery. One of the guys on 11/22/2010 and the other on 12/01/2010. Both are choosing the open retro. One of the guys is 48 the other 57. My prayers are with them.
Biopsy went well, now we wait for the results. The CAT scan did show cancer cells in the pelvic area so a bone scan is scheduled for Dec. 3. That may be moved up.
Since my prostatectomy in May 2003, I have ridden 18,725 miles on my bicycle and climbed 238,857 vertical feet, including the famed Alpe d'Huze in France. My 18,725 miles is 75.2% of the distance around the world at the equator. I'll be in France again this summer to attempt three climbs up Mt.
I have been a facilitator for Amer. Ca. Society in NYC for the past 10 years. During this time I have sopken to many survivors and newly diagnosed PCa patients.
My wife has just been diagnosed with lung cancer.
We are supposed to meet with the oncologist today.
I'm trying compile a list of questions to ask the doctor.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
I'm still freaked out from the news.
Thanks.

Man it seems like the world is so slow right now. Is it just us that have the sense of urgency. Called all week. First to find out the primary physician still had not send the referral to the Oncologist. Next waiting for the oncologist office to call. Now waiting for the PET scan appointment.
A key component of living a long, healthy life is to minimize exposure to environmental hazards. This is a letter written to the White House from a group of scientists at the University of California San Francisco regarding the whole body scanners now found at many airports.
