Diagnosis
My world came crashing down today when I saw my husband waiting on the back porch as soon as I arrived home from my teaching job. He finally made an appointment with his doctor at Togus Medical Center after months of nagging him. All summer he complained about feeling the urge to use the bathroom but then nothing ever came out. Then he started to feel pain in the area of his kidneys.

On June 6, 2009, my family was assaulted as we left a pub/restaurant in our small community. It was graduation weekend, our youngest daughter was graduating from high school that weekend. Our oldest daughter came to visit with her son from Colorado and our son was home with his girlfriend. As the youngest stayed home to visit with her nephew, my husband and I took our oldest children out for the evening. We stopped by kind of late at this establishment so our son could reunite with a friend from high school. We live in a small town in Maine and felt that stopping at this late hour would not be a problem. Unfortunately the establishment allowed a group of young men to overdrink. When they saw my son arrive they thought he was another male who they had a confrontation with earlier that evening because they both shared red-hair. Upon leaving they attacked my son with fists and kicking, three against one. My husband immediately went to his son't defense and they attacked him. My husband ended up with a lacerated kidney and three broken ribs.

That incident gave cause for my husband to wonder if the discomfort he was experiencing last summer was related to the kidney injury he had suffered. When the pain and discomfort became more frequent, he finally called for an appointment (after I placed stickie notes all over the house to remind him ).

What did we hear the afternoon of Oct. 8th by phone? That his PSA number was 35.9, his blood pressure was 130 over 182. The nurse who called said with a PSA number that high it is probably cancer! To come back in on Tuesday (Monday was holiday) and have more blood and urine test done. I went with him and she didn't have any more information except an appointment was now scheduled for urology.
