Green Smoothie Revolution

Not sure when or how it started. But, if you do a little online surfing you'll run into it. The Green Smoothie Revolution is well on it's way. And now you too, can easily become a consumer of raw green delicious health.

Finally scientists have begun to research the effects of whole plant foods on health. After all, human beings have self-selected certain plants to provide health and nutrition over the past 5000 years. Our bodies are specifically designed to live on a variety fresh fruits and vegetables. Therefore, fruits and vegetables rarely cause inflammation like many of the unnatural ingredients found in processed foods. Also, fruits and vegetables that are grown organically must create natural defenses against pests. Many of these pest-fighters are phytochemicals that give fruits and vegetables the capacity to help our bodies heal and fight disease.

In steps the Green Smoothie. Its a quick and easy way to get at least five servings of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables into your daily routine. Essentially, a green smoothie isn't necessarily green. It does contain one of a variety of raw green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, collards or swiss chard, but, it's mostly fruit. The taste is completely refreshing with little evidence that you're chowing down on kale. The benefit of fresh and raw - none of the powerful micronutrients are lost before they get to work in your body on a cellular level.

Here's my favorite recipe. In a blender place 1 apple chopped w/peel, no seeds, 1/2 c. fresh or frozen blueberries, 1 c. strawberries (you can leave green top on), 2 cups raw spinach, 1 1/2-2c. water. Pulse then blend until smooth.
