Treatment
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last weekend. I had a really scary episode, and I had to be taken to the hospital. I was unresponsive and incoherent. My blood sugar upon admittance was almost 700. I had lost more than 20 pounds in two days.

Last Thursday, I was sick in bed with a stomach virus, and the next morning, my husband found me out of it in the bathroom and not responding. Then he took me to the hospital, where they treated me for my high blood sugar and my low electrolytes. They had to slowly raise my temperature and put the electrolytes back in my body. That's when they started to talk about my diabetes, and that I was type 1.

Since then, I've been trying to take care of myself and manage my diabetes and blood sugars. I've been taking insulin, counting carbs, and trying to exercise every day.

I have three kids, twin girls 3 years old, and a 2 year old son. I'm married to a wonderful man who's been supportive and wonderful through this whole process. He makes dinner during the week, and he helps me count carbs and test my blood sugar.

I'm going to take insulin my whole life, but knowing that he's supporting me, and that I have my children's futures to look forward to, I think I can do it.
