Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues

;
I am writing to you regarding a friend and associate, his name is Louis Lopez who is fighting for his life. Louis is suffering from end-stage liver disease. Doctors say a liver transplant is his only hope for a second chance at life. Louis’ illness leaves him exhausted and unable to work. Despite his struggles, Louis has high hopes for the future and is waiting for a lifesaving transplant. But he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Louis’ hope for a new life comes at a very high price. A liver transplant costs approximately $500,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Louis will face significant medical expenses. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. The cost of post-transplant medications can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per month—and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. It is estimated that in the short term, Louis needs at least $35,000 just to cover his medical expenses. Because the transplant will take place 130 miles from his home, he will incur substantial travel and temporary housing expenses as he goes through treatment and recovery. As he goes for his doctors visits at this time, he does incur the expenses for travel and lodging in San Diego, which is very expensive.

His life is somewhat dependent upon the compassion and generosity of others. Many of you have asked how you can send a contribution and I have researched this and there are two ways you can do that. You can send a check or make a donation online. For those of you that do not feel comfortable going online and making a donation, you can mail a check to the following:
National Foundation for Transplants, 5350 Poplar Avenue, Suite 430, Memphis, TN 38119. You must include on the memo section of the check Louis Lopez donation. If you do not insert his name, your donation will go directly to the National Foundation general account and we want to make sure that your support goes to Louis to assist in his expenses.
You can help by visiting www.transplants.org to make a secure online donation as well. Click on "Patients We Help'' and search for Louis Lopez. You do this by going to the website and on the top right side to "Patients we help". Type in keyword Louis Lopez and make a donation underneath his picture. You then give information on donation and payer source. Important under donation, information must be in Louis Lopez name so it will go to his care. You will then see receipt confirmation and indicate yes to obtain a receipt for a tax deduction expense.

If you have any questions about NFT, their services or volunteering, feel free to contact the NFT staff at 800-489-3863. You can also contact me and I can answer any questions that you have at 760-352-5213.
I know that times are hard for everyone right now, but remember any contribution is appreciated during this time of economic hardship. We are very fortunate and I hope that you will consider helping Louis. I have taken on the role as Chairperson for raising funds to assist Louis. The reason why I am doing this is because of his ongoing determination and faith. Louis is even taking one class at a time to finish his goal of obtaining a college degree and is volunteering to help individuals learn English As a Second Language. I sometimes see him so weak and so sick, yet he keeps going and I have never heard Louis complain about his health and "Why is this Happening to Me" - Never. I have known him for 7 years and never once have I heard him pity himself.
I hope that you will help. This is my first time trying to raise money for a cause like this and I hope that I can count on friends, colleagues and family to assist in this worthy cause.

I wish you health and happiness.
